STUDY DRAMA & MUSICAL THEATRE WITH NEWCASTLE’S PREMIER YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY!
Hunter Drama presents a full range of workshops and courses at our Broadmeadow and Islington studios. Our Young Actors and Musical Theatre Programs aim to have you fearless and ready to take on any role (both on and off the stage!) The programs are run with specially made, world class drama and musical theatre syllabi that are designed to cater specifically to each age group and their skill level, all the way from 5-18 years old.
Our industry professional tutors facilitate supportive, inclusive, energetic and most importantly, fun drama and musical theatre classes which aim to build confidence and creativity in each and every student with classes available locally at Broadmeadow and Islington.
Our programs are run during school term times with classes specific to each age group, beginning from years 2, 3 and 4 which are generally taught together, then years 5 and 6 and high school students grouped in years 7, 8 and 9 and finally years 10, 11 and 12. Enrolment should be within the first two weeks of term and it is recommended that new enrolments take place in term one or term 3 so that students have time to learn and work together on the performance opportunities that are scheduled for mid-year and end of year. Every child has the opportunity to perform on stage at the end of term 2 and the end of term 4.
As a Hunter Drama student there are also opportunities to audition for high quality productions that are staged at the Civic Theatre or the Civic Playhouse in Newcastle, giving those who dream of a professional career on the stage, a chance to experience the audition process and what it’s like working in real theatre.
Studying drama or musical theatre provides children with benefits such as increased confidence and self-esteem, improved social and teamwork skills, opportunities for self-expression and creativity, it builds critical thinking skills, memory and focus and creates a strong sense of community.
