THE JUNGLE BOOK-School Holiday Fun!
“A brave heart is your best weapon …”
Hunter Drama is proud to present the classic adventure story, The Jungle Book, at the Civic Playhouse 18 – 27 April with tickets on sale now. The Jungle Book is a firm favourite for all ages and the perfect school holiday event for all the family.
In this action packed adaptation by Monica Flory, which is faithful to the original Rudyard Kipling story, there’s an added emotional depth at its heart – one that explores Mowgli’s quest for identity and makes this a theatrical experience not to miss.
Mowgli grows up believing he’s as fierce as a wolf and a member of the wolf pack. When he learns he is actually a human, he must discover how to reconcile these very different identities, and decide whether to remain with the pack, or return to the human world. What will he choose? And will he be trained in the Law of the Jungle in time to defeat Shere Khan, the most feared animal of all?
Hunter Drama Artistic Director, James Chapman says that choosing to present The Jungle Book in the school holidays was an easy decision.
“The Jungle Book is a story that everyone knows, it’s a classic,” said James. “The version we are presenting this year is not the Disneyfied version. There’s no singing, it’s not a cartoon. It’s a story of identity that will appeal to every age. The youngest of children will be excited by the set and to see the animals on stage and their parents will appreciate the depth of the piece.”
Directed by Tim Turner who directed the highly successful production of Kid Frankenstein for Hunter Drama two years ago, it has a similar appeal. Lighting design is by multiple CONDA award winner Jacob Harwood and the plans for the set promise to deliver a magical experience in the intimate Playhouse space.
“We’ll be using multi-sensory design to ensure that the audience’s every sense will be stimulated in a way that transports them into the dense, lush, mysterious world of the jungle. They will hear the animal sounds and even smell the scents of flowers and wood, preparing them for the adventures ahead as the story unfolds before their very eyes in a way that only live theatre in an intimate space can deliver.
“We’ve got a great cast. Over 90 Hunter Drama students auditioned and the 20 that have been cast fit their characters perfectly.”
The show runs for 75 minutes and is a high energy, colourful and exciting adventure story guaranteed to keep kids aged 4 to 94 engaged and entertained right to the enthralling end.
