Allison Van Gaal
Allison is much sought after vocal coach with over 20 years experience. She is a qualified high school music teacher and is also qualified to teach VET Entertainment Industries.
Allison holds a Bachelor of Music and a Graduate Diploma of Education. Allison has performed in over 80 local productions in her 27 years in the Newcastle Theatre Community, where she has had numerous lead roles in musicals, cabarets, plays, and both directed and musical directed receiving a City of Newcastle Dramatic Award nomination for Best Musical Direction and Best Supporting Actress in a dramatic play.
In 2015 Allison directed Michael Gows “Away” in which she was Nominated for Best Director at the City of Newcastle Dramatic Awards.
More recently she was the recipient of the Tantrum Trajectory Residency Program creating and directing her original theatre work “Welcome” for the Crack Festival.
Allison has previously directed and acted for both Micro Theatre festival and Hissy Festival.
In 2018 Allison directed
“Year of the Rooster” for Knock and Run Theatre earning a CONDA nomination for Best Director of Dramatic Play and she
was Assistant Director to Vanessa Bates for the Stooged production of “The Dark Room”.
In 2018 played the lead role “George” in Newcastle Theatre Company’s “Peep Show” earning a nomination for Best Actress in a Dramatic Play at the CONDAS.
Allison is passionate about new work and devising ensemble based theatre and has recently accepted to be the 2019 tutor for the Actors Company at Hunter Drama which she is thrilled.
Most recently Allison played Sandra in The original play “Hermit Crabs and Meteors” with the amazing Bearfoot Theatre Company.
