Allison Van Gaal
Allison is much sought after vocal coach with over 20 years experience. She is a qualified high school music teacher and is also qualified to teach VET Entertainment Industries.
Allison graduated from Newcastle Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music (Voice) and has achieved a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the University of New England. Allison also hold a Licentiate (LTCL) in Voice from Trinity Guildhall London.
Allison has performed in over 80 local productions in her 27 years in the Newcastle theatre community. She has had numerous lead roles in musicals, cabarets, and plays as well as both directed, and musical directed productions in which she has received a City of Newcastle Dramatic Award nomination for both musical direction and as a supporting actress in a play. Theatre highlights include “Mary” in Jesus Christ Superstar, “Hope” in Anything Goes, Rent, “Madame Thenadier” in Les Miserables and Godspell. Allison has co-written and performed in many sell out cabarets, directed short plays for the recent Hissy festival as well as acting in “Train Love” for the festival. Her most recent theatre roles were Sarah in Newcastle Theatre Company’s production of “Company” and “Mother” in Two Tall Theatre Companies S-27.
Allison has also directed numerous musicals primary and middle school at St Philip’s Christian College where she was a music teacher for over 8 years. Musicals included Honk Jr, Suessical Jr and most recently Jungle Book Jr for Newcastle Grammar School. In 2015 Allison directed “Away” by Michael Gow for Pantseat Productions and she was recently Nominated for Best Director at the City of Newcastle Drama Awards. Allison finds most joy from tutoring and nurturing young students in the arts. Teaching is Allison’s greatest passion and she is currently teaching singing and piano at Newcastle Park Campus.
Allison is delighted to be now tutoring at Hunter Drama in 2017.
